SCHOOL READINESS INFORMATION
The Harvard Family Research Project has information on its website that speaks to the numerous complementary learning linkages that
can enrich children’s cognitive and social development throughout their preschool and school years and beyond.

RELATED RESEARCH
A study published in the August 19, 2006 issue of Pediatrics finds that children who witness violence and abuse at home are
more likely to display physically aggressive acts of bullying than their peers, and are at greater risk for depression and anxiety.
The study, by researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle, is the first in the U.S. to examine the association of child
witnesses to intimate partner violence and involvement in bullying.

A recent Newswise.com article reports the results of a University of Florida study that shows that the brain’s frontal lobe
seems to develop less quickly in children exposed to cocaine before they were born.
Please click on http://www.newswise.com/articles/view/525079/?sc=dwhn for additional research information.
Recent research by Child Trends Data Bank indicates that children three and younger are more likely to be victims of maltreatment
than older children. For specifics on the possible causes of child maltreatment and differences by demographics, click on http://www.childtrendsdatabank.org/indicators/40ChildMaltreatment.cfm.
