Philadelphia police searching for burglary suspect caught on camera
Police in South Philadelphia are searching for a man who was caught on a surveillance camera taking items out of the foyer of a residence. The video, which was released on YouTube through the Philadelphia Police Department, shows a man waiting outside of a home and eventually breaking through the foyer area to steal a package that appeared to be recently delivered.
Although there was no audio for the video, it appears that a resident of the building confronts the man off-camera. A brief discussion leads to the suspect briskly walking away from the scene.
According to Action News 6 of Philadelphia, the burglary took place on January 22, and police are now asking for the public’s help.
If anyone in the Philadelphia knows of similar incidents or recognizes the man in the video, they are encouraged to confidentially reach out to the Philadelphia PD at 215-686-8477 or text at 773847.
For your safety
The incident reported in Philadelphia raises awareness about apartment safety. Package theft is a common occurrence, and with access sometimes being open to the foyer area, it is sometimes too easy for a burglar to attempt.
If you live in a building similar to that of the one in Philadelphia, it’s important to have video surveillance spread around high-risk zones. Talk to your landlord about installing video cameras if there is no such technology in your building just yet.
